The Sauer Structural Biology Laboratory (SSBL) houses a FEI Titan Krios equipped with a Gatan BioContinuum Imaging Filter and K3 direct electron detector for high-resolution single-particle cryo-EM and cryo-ET. The SSBL also houses a TFS Glacios equipped with a Falcon IV direct electron detector for imaging, as well as a CETA-D CMOS detector for micro-ED. Both instruments are capable of imaging macromolecular machines at atomic or near-atomic resolution. The facility also contains ancillary equipment required for preparation of plunge-frozen cryo-EM samples.
FEI Titan Krios G3 cryo-TEM
The FEI Titan Krios G3 is a 300 kV TEM ideal for high-resolution imaging of frozen hydrated samples. It is equipped with a Gatan Biocontinuum Imaging Filter and a K3 direct electron detector for rapid high DQE imaging enabling high-resolution single-particle studies (up to ~2 Å), as well as cryo-ET. Its autoloader further enables rapid screening of samples prior to data collection.
Thermo Scientific Glacios cryo-TEM
The Thermo Scientific Glacios cryo-TEM is a 200 kV TEM suitable for sample screening of cryo-EM samples and high-resolution (up to ~2.5 Å) single-particle studies, as well as tomography of thin samples. It is equipped with a Falcon IV direct detector camera for high DQE imaging, and an autoloader for rapid and convenient imaging of cryo-EM samples.
